First time using osc/pilot. Can somebody tell me how can I connect my iPad so I can control stuff in Ableton on my MacBook? I have no idea how to connect the two. If somebody can dumb it down for me it would be great.

Look into how to setup a virtual MIDI port in macOS (I’m not expert on it, but there are lots of articles about it). This should cause a MIDI device to show up both in Ableton and in the iOS version of OSC/PILOT, which you can use to communicate between the two.
